The province of Ontario has shifted to a no fee licence plate sticker program and issued refunds for those that had paid in the past. To avoid any confusion, yes, you still need to renew your licence plate once a year, or once every two years (the choice is yours!).
Your best option is to renew online every two years. In most cases you don’t need to visit a Service Ontario location, as Ontario.ca has an online form that walks you through the entire process.
PRO TIP: You can sign up for digital reminders so you don’t miss when your Ontario licence plate, driver’s licence, or health card expires. Click here to get started.
